Description

Objectives:
At the end of the session the learners will be able to:

1. Define and differentiate RSV, COVID and Influenza symptoms and presentation in children
2. Conduct an assessment of children with respiratory distress vs failure
3. Describe the treatment course for children hospitalized with RSV, COVID and Influenza
4. Help parents assess when the child should visit the emergency department
5. Review case presentations

Description:
Sniffling, sneezing and wheezing in kidshow do you know what’s causing it? RSV, COVID and Influenza all have respiratory symptoms, but how do you tell the difference? And what are the nursing implications of each? While the “triple-demic” isn’t a  scientifically accepted term, last year it vividly described the triple threat that children faced.  All three have different modes of transmission and different symptoms, which can be subtle, so knowing how to differentiate them, can make a difference especially when respiration symptoms turn into respiratory distress. Join Tanya Spence, a pediatric nurse with many years of experience in critical care to learn the differences and how to assess kids with RSV, COVID and Influenza; learn the different treatment course is, when to advise parents to seek medical attention and we’ll review some case studies to enhance your learning.

Who Should Attend?:
• Pediatric nurses; Nurses who care for adults, but occasionally care for children
• Emergency and critical care nurses
• Nurses from mixed medical-surgical/pediatric units
• Ambulatory Care Nurses; pediatric clinic, doctor’s office & primary care settings
• Tele-health Nurses, Community Health Nurses, Outpost Nurses
