Description:

It is safe to say that as a society, we have developed an obsession with our cell phones and social media. Many of us feel anxious when we can’t use our cell phones even for short lengths of time. Parents are concerned about the number of hours their teen spends online. Others wonder if it’s safe to let their infant or toddler be occupied with their iPads.  It also raises a number of questions: Is there evidence of our brains responding to cell phones and social media in similar ways to other addictions?  What is screen time doing to our physical and mental health? What is the impact on our social connections?

The science is in, and it shows the pre-frontal cortex of our brains are being rewired in stark and dramatic ways. We are pleased to announce that Dr. Carl Marci, author of “Rewired: Protecting Your Brain in the Digital Age” will join us for this fascinating and essential conversation.  Dr Marci, a psychiatrist, has been at the forefront of research on the impact of digital technology and will discuss what the science reveals about how it has fundamentally affected us. Additionally, he will provide scientifically supported solutions for everyone who wants to restore their tech-life balance – from those concerned about their personal and children’s exposure to the internet, to teachers wondering about digital strategies in the classroom, and to stressed out employees dealing with the deluge of emails and managing the employer’s expectation of 24/7 availability.
