2. Describe the use of the American Geriatric Society’s Beers Criteria as it applies to polypharmacy.
3. List the 10 general principles of polypharmacy.
4. Provide multiple examples drugs that shouldn’t be used in combination.
5. Provide alternative choices for each of the above examples.

Polypharmacy has negative consequences for patients and the health care system, like adverse drug events, increased hospital re-admissions and even increased mortality..The patents most at risk for polypharmacy are often the sickest with multi-comorbidities. Barb Bancroft, RN, MSN, PNP
Barb Bancroft is a widely acclaimed nursing teacher who has taught courses on Advanced Pathophysiology, Pharmacology, and Physical Assessment to both graduate and undergraduate students. Also certified as a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner, she has held faculty positions at the University of Virginia, the University of Arkansas, Loyola University of Chicago, and St. Xavier University of Chicago. Barb is known for her extensive knowledge of pathophysiology and as one of the most dynamic nursing speakers in North America today.
