Description:
Many health professionals don’t think much about HIV these days. While the crisis days of the 80’s and 90’s have passed, we need to remain vigilant, especially with the news of a 25% increase in new cases in Canada. HIV was one of the world’s most serious public health challenges, so staying up to date with new information is crucial.  Additionally, studies show people are still afraid of HIV-positive persons, and the stigma may actually be a driver of new infections.

Join us for this important update with Dr. Ameeta Singh, a specialist in Infectious Diseases, who will cover HIV epidemiology, including Canadian hotspots; clinical manifestations, treatment, and follow up; factors affecting HIV transmission, including treatment and prevention (TasP) and U=U (undetectable=untransmissable); HIV prevention, including pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis ( PEP and PrEP); and lastly, special considerations in the care of HIV patients in primary and acute care settings.
