Objectives:
•  Participants will explore at least four ways in which trauma impacts human development
•  Participants will learn what art therapy is, and how it can be applied to trauma work
•  Participants will learn about the similarities and differences between creative arts therapy and other expressive modalities
•  Participants will learn basic knowledge of art materials and their application in clinical work
•  Participants will learn at least two creative interventions and their application in clinical work

Description:
Studies have revealed the mobilizing power of creativity both in contemplation and in the capacity to evoke personal stories with healing potential. Art in all its forms is a carrier of powerful emotions that can be used for therapeutic purposes  in clinical spaces.  Join our certified art therapist, Jennifer Herbert, ATP-BC, LCAT to learn more about how creative interventions in trauma therapy can be applied in mental health settings, even with the most challenging clients. She’ll provide you with a unique resource that will  help facilitate the client’s identification, expression or demonstration of emotions or feelings related with trauma, in situations of vulnerability and psychological discomfort.

Jennifer Herbert, ATR-BC,  LCAT

Jennifer Herbert has over 18 years of clinical experience as an art therapist and trainer in New York City, working with children, families, and communities affected by trauma, violence, and lack of adequate housing. In her current role, she addresses the cumulative effects of isolation and complex trauma, with an emphasis on both prevention and intervention services. Jennifer has provided training internationally to educators, clinicians, and other professionals on topics including: self-care and organizational wellness; vicarious trauma and best practices in trauma-informed services; art-based programming; and the impact of trauma and violence on children, adolescents, and adults.
