Description:
Breastfeeding is a learning experience for mother and baby. It’s a natural activity, but it takes practice, which requires time and patience. It’s normal for women to feel many anxieties around breastfeeding, at all stages and experience levels. It’s also normal for the nurse assisting the mother to experience anxiety as to whether her advice and assistance will help the mother be successful at breastfeeding. That’s why we’ve devised this special two-part webinar on breastfeeding with expert lactation consultant Angela Grant Buechner BA, BScN, RN, IBCLC.  Angela will help you navigate breastfeeding issues with your new and experienced moms as problems can arise at any stage.

In the first webinar, Angela will cover Part A: The Basics and Early Support, where she’ll demonstrate effective teaching and counselling strategies to improve breastfeeding/chestfeeding outcomes; discuss the practical skills to improve position, latch, effective milk transfer and hand expression; ways to promote, protect and support lactation to assist families to reach their personal feeding goals; discuss normal newborn expectations regarding feeding, review relevant newborn physiology and more. In the second webinar, Part B: Challenges and Special Considerations. Angela will Identify evidence-based ways to manage common early medical concerns, like low glucose, jaundice, losing too much weight; discuss management of supplementation and common interventions to better support lactation, including pumping, alternative feeding methods, and nipple shields; discuss common challenges including tongue tie, mastitis and engorgement; discuss harm reduction strategies, medications, NICU admission, maternal illness in relation to lactation management; and discuss common myths, social media trends and current practices;
