Objectives:
\n<\/b><\/strong>1. To learn what constitutes a \u201cdark personality\u201d and how are they different from clinical disorders and other types of potentially harmful traits.
\n2. To understand the differences between the three Dark Triad traits, especially the different ways that they manipulate.
\n3. Learn how to assess, recognize, and potentially flag individuals who are problematically high in a Dark Triad trait.
\n4. To learn strategic ways to protect yourself from someone who displays a Dark Triad trait.
\n5. To consider ethical constraints when managing a group or team with a Dark Triad member.<\/p>\n

Description:
\n<\/b>In recent years, personality psychologists have found that a certain cluster of traits, referred to as the “Dark Triad” of personality, which includes psychopathy (having little in the way of feelings for others); narcissism (overly focusing on oneself); and Machiavellianism (manipulating others for one’s own gain); tends to be predictive of a broad suite of difficult social behaviours, such as revenge-seeking,\u00a0cutting people out of one’s life, and refusing to help others. In short, caution is warranted when\u00a0clients, patients, or colleagues\u00a0show Dark Triad tendencies.
\n<\/b>
\nWe’re really pleased to have Daniel Nelson Jones Ph.D, <\/b>a specialist in the Dark Triad,<\/b> to present this fascinating webinar. Not only has Dr. Jones researched alongside Dr. Delroy Paulhus who originated the Dark Triad concept along with Dr. Kevin Williams at UBC; but he has continued his research and has developed models of betrayal, deception and organizational harm. Eminently qualified on the topic, Dr. Jones will help us understand what constitutes a dark personality; how it is different from other clinical disorders and other harmful traits; the difference between the traits with a special emphasis on manipulation; how to assess, recognize and potentially flag individuals with these traits; how to learn strategic ways to protect yourself from a Dark Triad personality and what to do when managing a group or team with a Dark Triad member.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"Daniel N. Jones Ph.D
\n<\/strong><\/p>\n

Daniel N. Jones is a Professor of Management at the University of Nevada Reno (UNR). He received his Ph.D. in Social \/ Personality Psychology from the University of British Columbia in 2011. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed journal articles and chapters and earned the Early Career Award from the Western Psychological Association. He was awarded grants from prestigious agencies such as the National Science Foundation and Army Research Laboratory to research topics such as secret disclosure, phishing attacks, and cybersecurity. Historically, his research has focused on the differentiation of the Dark Triad (Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and narcissism) and Dark Tetrad (Dark Triad + sadism) of personality, publishing influential papers on their overlap and distinctiveness, with a special focus on the vexing trait of Machiavellianism. He has also developed differential models of betrayal, long vs. short-term deception, organizational harm, and destructive leadership. Most importantly, Dr. Jones is developing interventions that are designed to mitigate Dark Triad harm, as can be seen in his TEDx talk here<\/a>. Dr. Jones is also establishing a consulting presence to implement evidence-based solutions for dealing with Dark Triad traits. Outside of his interest in dark personalities, Dr. Jones also authored a forthcoming book, \u201cEmophilia: The Science of Serial Romance,<\/i>\u201d with Oxford University Press. which discusses the propensity to fall in love easily and often.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
