Describe the epidemiology of HIV in Canada<br \/>\n2. Describe the clinical manifestations, natural course of HIV, the approach to treatment and follow-up of persons living with HIV (PLWH)<br \/>\n3. Describe factors affecting HIV transmission including Treatment as Prevention (TasP) and U=U (undetectable = untransmissible)<br \/>\n4. Describe biomedical approaches to HIV prevention including pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP and PrEP)<br \/>\n5. Special considerations in the care of PLWH in primary and acute care settings<\/p>\n<p><b>Description:<br \/>\n<\/b>Many health professionals don\u2019t think much about HIV these days. While the crisis days of the 80\u2019s and 90\u2019s have passed, we need to remain vigilant, especially with the news of a <b><i>25% increase in new cases in Canada.<\/i><\/b> HIV was one of the world&#8217;s most serious public health challenges, so staying up to date with new information is crucial.\u00a0 Additionally, studies show people are still afraid of HIV-positive persons, and the stigma may actually be a driver of new infections.<\/p>\n<p>Join us for this important update with <strong>Dr. Ameeta Singh, <\/strong>a specialist in Infectious Diseases, who will cover HIV epidemiology, including Canadian hotspots; clinical manifestations, treatment, and follow up; factors affecting HIV transmission, including treatment and prevention (TasP) and U=U (undetectable=untransmissable); HIV prevention, including pre-exposure and post-exposure prophylaxis ( PEP and PrEP); and lastly, special considerations in the care of HIV patients in primary and acute care settings.<\/p>\n<p><b>Who Should Attend?:<br \/>\n<\/b><b>All Nurses and Health Care Practitioners in:<br \/>\n<\/b>\u2022 Women\u2019s and Men\u2019s Health settings, Sexual Health &amp; Clinic Settings<br \/>\n\u2022 Public Health, all Perinatal and Neonatal Settings<br \/>\n\u2022 Street and Urban Clinic Settings, School Nurses, Those who care for Adolescents<br \/>\n\u2022 Primary Care nurses and Doctors<br \/>\n\u2022 Emergency Departments and Urgent Care Clinics<\/p>\n<p><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-75335 alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/healthlinksed.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/Singh.IMG_1392-300x200-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" \/><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"font-size: large;\"><span lang=\"EN-US\">Dr. Ameeta Singh, BMBS (UK), MSc, FRCPC<\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Dr. Ameeta Singh is a Clinical Professor in the Division of Infectious Diseases at the University of Alberta (Edmonton). She has worked as an adult infectious diseases physician at the Royal Alexandra Hospital (RAH)and maintained an HIV\/STI outpatient practice at the Edmonton STI Clinic and RAH since 1998. She has also served as the Territorial Consultant for STBBI in Nunavut since July 2017. She was the Alberta provincial consultant for STBBI from 1998 to 2008, and the Medical Director of the Edmonton STI Clinic from 1998 to 2014.
