\n<\/b>\u2022 Understand the pathophysiological mechanisms behind diabetic foot ulcers, including neuropathy, vascular issues, and immune system dysfunction.
\n\u2022 Explain the criteria and procedures for risk screening and assessment of diabetic foot ulcers, emphasizing the important role of early detection.
\n\u2022 Evaluate evidence-based treatment strategies for diabetic foot ulcers.
\n\u2022 Recognize potential complications that may arise in diabetic foot ulcer cases, such as cellulitis and osteomyelitis.
\n\u2022 Acquire knowledge of preventive strategies for diabetic foot ulcers, which encompass patient education on proper foot care, footwear selection, and the importance of regular foot screenings.<\/p>\n

Description:
\n<\/b>Diabetic foot ulcers are among the most common complications of patients who have poorly controlled diabetes. The combination of poor glycemic control, underlying neuropathy, peripheral vascular disease, and poor foot care, can result in chronic disease. This risks the development of osteomyelitis of the foot and amputation of lower extremities. These ulcers are usually in the areas of the foot which encounter repetitive pressure so there is a need for long term monitoring and solutions. Join our wound specialist Corey Heerschap<\/strong> who will review the pathophysiology, risks and complications; but also the evidence based care, prevention strategies and patient education, so that you can improve your care of clients and patients with diabetic foot ulcers.

Corey Heerschap, MScCH, BScN, RN, NSWOC, WOCC(C), IIWCC, CMP<\/strong><\/p>\n

Corey Heerschap<\/strong> is currently practising as a Clinical Nurse Specialist for Wound and Ostomy care. He completed his MSc. in Community Health specializing in Wound Prevention and Care and the International Interdisciplinary Wound Care Course from the University of Toronto. He is a Nurse Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence and is certified in Wound, Ostomy & Continence Nursing through the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA). He has completed the second cohort of the CAET Building Leadership for Enterostomal Therapy Nursing Excellence Program. He is the winner of the 2019 NSWOCC president\u2019s award for excellence in wound, ostomy and continence nursing. He has participated as an expert panel member for the second edition of the Ostomy Care and Management guidelines and assisted in the development of the recent CNA wound, ostomy and continence exam. In addition to his work in the wound care field, He has also conducted and published research in the field of nursing education, wound care, and ostomy management. He is currently completing a PhD in Nursing focusing on wound care decision-making by registered nurses.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
