Objectives:

1. Define and differentiate RSV, COVID and Influenza symptoms and presentation in children
\n2. Conduct an assessment of children with respiratory distress vs failure
\n3. Describe the treatment course for children hospitalized with RSV, COVID and Influenza
\n4. Help parents assess when the child should visit the emergency department
\n5. Review case presentations<\/p>\n

Description:
\n<\/b>Sniffling, sneezing and wheezing in kids<\/b>…<\/b>how do you know what’s causing it? <\/b>RSV, COVID and Influenza all have respiratory symptoms, but how do you tell the difference? And what are the nursing implications of each?<\/b> While the “triple-demic” isn’t a\u00a0 scientifically accepted term, last year it vividly described the triple threat that children faced.\u00a0 All three have different modes of transmission and different symptoms, which can be subtle, so knowing how to differentiate them, can make a difference especially when respiration symptoms turn into respiratory distress. Join Tanya Spence,<\/b> a pediatric nurse with many years of experience in critical care to learn the differences and how to assess kids with RSV, COVID and Influenza; learn the different treatment course is, when to advise parents to seek medical attention and we’ll review some case studies to enhance your learning.<\/p>\n

Tanya Spence has been a Registered Nurse for 25 years, with a BScN from the University of Saskatchewan and an MN from Athabasca University. She spent 22 years of her career in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit at the Alberta Children\u2019s Hospital, including 10 years as a Clinical Nurse Specialist. She successfully developed and led a rescue Extracorporeal Life Support Program (ECLS) and a Pediatric Critical Care Transport Program. Curriculum and program development, education delivery, resuscitation, simulation, and critical care research are Tanya\u2019s key interests. Most recently, Tanya holds the position of Senior Practice Lead for Resuscitation education in Alberta Health Services<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
