Objectives:
\n<\/strong>At the end of the session the learners will be able to:<\/p>\n

1. Identify at least 5 diseases of the pancreas that destroy the pancreatic beta cells and can cause secondary diabetes.
\n2. Identify other diseases that involve central mechanisms of glucose control including mental health disorders
\n3. Identify at least 6 hormonal syndromes that cause peripheral insulin resistance
\n4. Identify at least 8 categories of medications that can cause secondary diabetes; and problematic dosages of certain medications.
\n5. Understand the impact of stress; discuss hyperglycemia and the hospitalized diabetic and non-diabetic patient
\n6. Identify appropriate diagnostic tests and treatment of secondary diabetes.<\/p>\n

Description:
\n<\/b>Secondary diabetes is diabetes caused by other illnesses or medications. Depending on the primary process involved, these types of diabetes can behave similarly to Type 1 OR Type 2 diabetes. In this webinar, we’ll focus on the types of diseases and hormonal syndromes that create risk factors for your patients to develop secondary diabetes. We’ll also have a thorough discussion of the 8 categories of drugs that can cause secondary diabetes. Diagnosis, specific tests and treatment will be discussed.
