It is safe to say that as a society, we have developed an obsession with our cell phones and social media. Many of us feel anxious when we can’t use our cell phones even for short lengths of time. Parents are concerned about the number of hours their teen spends online. Others wonder if it’s safe to let their infant or toddler be occupied with their iPads.\u00a0 It also raises a number of questions: Is there evidence of our brains responding to cell phones and social media in similar ways to other addictions?\u00a0 What is screen time doing to our physical and mental health? What is the impact on our social connections?<\/p>\n

Dr. Marci is a physician, scientist, entrepreneur, and author of the book, Rewired: <\/strong><\/em>Protecting Your Brain in the Digital Age<\/em><\/strong>. <\/strong> He is currently the Chief Psychiatrist and Managing Director of Mental Health and Neuroscience at OM1, a health technology and data company based in Boston, MA. He is a board-certified psychiatrist at Massachusetts General Hospital and part-time Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School.<\/p>\n

Previously, Dr. Marci was Chief Psychiatrist or Chief Medical Officer at a number of venture backed health and technology enabled companies and the co-founder, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Innerscope Research, a pioneer in the field of consumer neuroscience. Innerscope Research was a data science and media research firm acquired by Nielsen in 2015, where he served as the first Global Chief Neuroscientist until 2019.<\/p>\n

Dr. Marci received his B.A. with honours from Columbia University, his M.A. from Oxford University as a Rhodes Scholar, and his M.D. with honours from Harvard Medical School. He completed two NIH fellowships in neuroscience and has published numerous articles in peer-reviewed science journals, holds seven patents, gives lectures nationally and internationally.<\/p>\n
