\n<\/b>The opportunity to love and be loved is a large part of what makes life worth living. Yet love also opens us to pain, particularly when we experience the death of a loved one. This webinar harnesses current psychological research to explain the science behind loss, grief, and restoration. Scientific investigation into loss has increased dramatically over the last 20 years, and these investigations have produced fascinating (and sometimes surprising) insights. Likewise, the fields of neuroscience, psychoneuroimmunology, and behavioural medicine have informed our understanding of the biology of grief and what methods are most effective in helping those grieving a loss. The webinar culminates with a review of emerging research on strategies to restore and renew oneself after loss, emphasizing the growth potential.<\/p>\n

Dr. Christopher P. Fagundes, Ph.D
\n<\/strong>
\nChristopher Fagundes, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor in Rice University\u2019s Department of Psychological Sciences. A health psychologist with expertise in grief, behavioral medicine, and psychoneuroimmunology, Dr. Fagundes designs and tests interventions that boost resilience, reduce psychological stress and improve cardiovascular and immune function in older adults amid significant life stressors such as the death of a loved one. He has authored more than 100 articles and book chapters and received multiple grants to study the impact of spousal bereavement. He is an elected member in the Academy for Behavioral Medicine Research. Dr. Fagundes has taught courses on Stress and Health Across the Lifespan, Health Psychology, Loss and Trauma Across the Lifespan, Psychoneuroimmunology, and Foundations of Health Psychology.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
